Cosmic Conquest - Board Game Art & UI Design

Client: Rising Empire Studios
Role: Lead Illustrator, UI Designer, Graphic Designer

🎨 Visual Identity & Art Direction

As the primary visual architect for Cosmic Conquest, I was responsible for defining the entire visual language of the game. My creative direction fused mythic science fiction with clean, player-focused UX design. Deliverables spanned digital and physical formats, maintaining harmony across all game components and user touchpoints.

  • Designed layout systems, iconography, color hierarchies, and interface composition across the game.

  • Developed the cohesive aesthetic tone of the Cosmic Conquest universe — blending celestial fantasy, dystopian technology, and cosmic myth.

  • Collaborated closely with Rising Empire Studios to ensure stylistic integrity, visual clarity, and immersive storytelling throughout the user experience.

🗃 Card Systems & Templates

Each card system was designed to be modular, readable, and visually consistent:

  • Armory Cards (Front & Back): Designed both sides with interactive elements, vector art, slot indicators, and upgrade modules.

  • Contender Cards: Designed all character stat cards with dynamic framing, rarity visuals, and faction identifiers.

  • Contender Card Framing System: Developed a tiered framing language to distinguish card rarity, class, and alignment while reinforcing the visual tone of the universe.

🪐 Planet & World Design

I illustrated and designed the 9 iconic planets central to the Cosmic Conquest universe, each serving as thematic battlegrounds and lore anchors.

  • Each planet features unique terrain, atmospheric lighting, and visual identity.

  • Color theory and environmental storytelling were used to communicate cultural ties and faction lore.

  • Final illustrations were designed to integrate seamlessly into both full-board visual contexts and zoomed-in card/gameplay scenarios.​​​​​​

 

🛡 Custom Logos & Branding

Branding extended to character and faction identities — ensuring each was represented with iconic clarity:

  • 22 Custom Vector Logos: Each representing a unique Contender in the game.

  • Logos were designed using character lore, faction type, and power archetype as a foundation.

  • Graphic design principles were applied for clarity at small sizes, strong symbolism, and ease of print across merchandise and digital UI.

🧩 Game Board & UI Systems

I built core UI elements and custom assets for player navigation, strategy, and immersion:

  • Armory Board: Designed the central upgrade and weapon hub of the game, combining tech-inspired UI overlays with functional clarity.

  • Planetary Card UI: Developed card layouts that communicate planetary control, travel nodes, and strategic information without overpowering art.

  • Player Guide UI: Created a comprehensive interface that communicates rules, turn structures, and action flows.

  • Designed 16 unique vector icons used throughout the guide and game board for status effects, action types, and gameplay mechanics.

🧠 Gameplay UI, Tokens & Overlay Systems

From tabletop to digital mockups, I crafted tools that bring clarity and visual storytelling into gameplay:

  • Designed combat overlays, turn trackers, resource counters, and token systems.

  • Created status tokens, phase icons, and visual containers for health, energy, and effects.

  • Produced visual aids for galactic board interactions and ability usage that align with the planet and character systems.

Beyond asset design, I also contributed to production-level presentation and visual cohesion across the pitch process:

  • Created digital mockups and print-ready assets for publisher presentations.

  • Designed deck slides, layout variants, and interface demos for internal reviews and stakeholder approvals.

  • Provided feedback-integrated iterations based on UI testing, art feedback, and gameplay evolution throughout the development cycle.
